The Precision Salinity Testers uses the Goldberg principle to provide reliable refractive index and parts/thousand salinity to better than 1 ppt. The Precision Salinity Tester is used for quality control in research and clinical laboratories. It can be used to check and maintain stock solutions and dilutions. In the food industry, it is especially effective in the preparation of frozen vegetables, fruits, seafood and ocean by-products.
The Salinity Tester is also used in oceanography and seawater studies for determining soil quality. The Precision Salinity Tester shows refractive index from 1.3330 to 1.3730 and salinity from 0-160 parts per thousand. By following ASTM Standard Practice D4542, results are accurate and reproducible to ±0.3 parts per thousand.
Testing is simple. Place a few drops of fluid on the prism & close the cover. Hold the refractometer under a light source and look through the focusable eyepiece. Take the reading at the shadowline seen on the scale.
